Motorola Public Service Selected by Mesa, Arizona to Implement Cityworks(TM) Asset Management Solution to Track Maintenance Operations

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Implementation Begins with Transportation Department and Set to Expand to Utilities

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The city of Mesa, Arizona selected the Public Service Group of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) to implement Azteca System's Cityworks(TM) as their computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in the Mesa Transportation Department. Motorola's Public Service Group and Azteca Systems, through its Cityworks asset management solution, will ensure that the right people have access to real-time information that truly matters. Specifically, Cityworks, the only Geographic Information System (GIS) centric asset management application available today, enables municipal government agencies to manage their community infrastructure resulting in the efficient tracking of equipment, ranging from inventory to maintenance scheduling and repair history.

"We are very pleased with the outcome of the Cityworks implementation," said Holly Oesterle, PMP, Information Technology Department, city of Mesa, Arizona. "Our plan is to continue expanding Cityworks into other areas such as the utilities division, including gas, water and electric."

Derek Witting, Mesa's field operations superintendent for transportation added, "It is a huge benefit to finally have a centralized system to track our maintenance operations. The system has enabled us to be more proactive in coordinating our activities and assists in identifying and avoiding conflicts. The knowledge and expertise that Motorola Public Service brought to the project made it possible for Transportation to implement and configure Cityworks on schedule."

The Mesa Cityworks system, which went live in June of 2008, supports over 125 Transportation Department users, contains over 30 different service request types and over 100 unique work order types. Cityworks improves service request response while accurately capturing maintenance and repair costs and gives the Transportation Department greater accountability while reducing administrative overhead and overtime. The system is expected to expand to 425 users and continues to gain acceptance throughout the city. The Utilities Department deployment is currently underway.

"Working with Mesa to implement the Cityworks system has been a great opportunity to exhibit Public Service's asset management expertise and to demonstrate the expandability of the application," according to Gerard Gallant, General Manager, Motorola Public Service. "Mesa understands the value of the system and worked with us to complete a successful on-time implementation. The Transportation Department has a significant number of assets ranging from roads to street lights and can now manage each of them from a central location."

Gallant added, "Our service capabilities and asset management application expertise are strong compliments to the Cityworks solution. Motorola Public Service specializes in public sector enterprise-wide infrastructure software and service implementations. We are delighted with the results of the Mesa project and look forward to working with them during the expansion of this offering to other departments within the city."

Motorola Public Service is the only authorized distributor for Azteca System's Cityworks asset management solution for large accounts in the United States. This seven-year partnership includes several implementations of the Cityworks system in cities and counties throughout the United States. Motorola Public Service has demonstrated continued success in delivering Cityworks implementations on time and on budget resulting in better management of maintenance activities.

According to Azteca Systems, Inc. President, Brian Haslam, "Customer care is paramount for Azteca Systems and our partners. Our goal is to meet and exceed customer expectations for both application and service delivery. We are pleased the Mesa implementation is an example of this tradition."
